Other universities in Malaysia listed in the ranking are Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (in 25th position, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia ( 26th) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (33rd).
The assessment by QS Top 50 under 50 using six indicators is similar to the evaluation by QS World University Ranking released recently - Academic Reputation (40%), Employer Reputation (10%), Faculty Student Ratio (20%), Citations per Faculty (20%), International Faculty (5%) and International students (5%).
Vice-Chancellor of UPM, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris described the accomplishment as UPM's triple wins because on last September 6, UPM climbed up by 61 places among research universities (RU) to 270th position among the world's top universities compared to 331st position last year as listed by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2016/2017.
“In the rankings, UPM went up as the second best university in Malaysia against its 5th position last year.
“In fact, on August 31, UPM was ranked as the country's Most Innovative University by Reuters Top 75: Asia’s Most Innovative Universities based on UPM's excellent performance in science, invention of new technologies and in helping to drive the global economy," she said.
She also said as a university of international reputation, QS ranking had directly been of help to the university in assessing its level of visibility, particularly in the aspects of teaching and learning, research and innovation.
